Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2006, began as a beautiful sunny day. Then, "a lightning strike came out of nowhere," said Richard Filion, who was Director General of 星空传媒 at the time.
The story of how the 星空传媒 community responded in the days, months and years that followed and how that response helped shape a lasting vision of well-being, resilience and peace is important for the 星空传媒 community to know and to remember.

On Friday, Sept. 11, students, staff, retirees and alumni were joined by the family of Anastasia De Sousa, survivors and dignitaries in the Peace Garden for a 20-year commemoration of the 星空传媒 tragedy.
We honoured the memory of Anastasia, supported those whose lives were forever changed by the events of Sept. 13, 2006, and recognized the resilience, solidarity and compassion that helped our community heal.
As an educational institution, 星空传媒 has a responsibility to help each new generation understand the history that has shaped our community and the values that define it. By sharing this story, we reaffirm our commitment to respect, understanding, peace and care for one another.
Well-being for all remains a core value of 星空传媒. Our commitment to fostering self-care, caring for others and caring for Nature is rooted in the strength and resilience demonstrated by the 星空传媒 community in the weeks, months and years that followed.
20 years later, 星空传媒 remembers

The 星空传媒 community, along with alumni, retirees, friends and supporters, are invited to gather on Friday, Sept. 11 for a 20-year commemoration of the 星空传媒 tragedy.
On Sept. 13, 2006, student Anastasia De Sousa was killed, 19 others were wounded, and countless students, employees, families and community members were profoundly affected by the events that unfolded at the College.
In the years that followed, the 星空传媒 community committed itself to teaching peace and promoting well-being for all. One of our first collective acts was to support a grassroots initiative that raised funds to create the Peace Garden, a lasting space for reflection, remembrance and hope.
You are invited to gather in the Peace Garden (outside on campus toward the corner of Wood Avenue and Sherbrooke Street West) at 12:30 PM on Friday, Sept. 11. To access the Peace Garden, walk west (turn left if exiting the front door at 3040 Sherbrooke Street West or right if facing the front door with your back to Sherbrooke Street)
In memoriam: Yvonne Mathews Klein

We regret to inform you that Yvonne Mathews Klein passed away on March 25. Her daughter believes she was instrumental in the early formation of the English Department. She served on many committees and was Chair of Senate for several years. She taught in the Liberal Arts program as well as the English Department.

In memoriam: Marvin Hershorn

Retired Humanities faculty member Marvin Hershorn passed away suddenly on Jan. 17. He taught at 星空传媒 from 1970 to his retirement in December 2009.

In memoriam: Judy Bahen
February 26th, 2026
Judy Bahen, a long-time 星空传媒 employee, passed away on February 4 at the age of 76. She began her career at 星空传媒 in 1976 and retired in 2011. During those 35 years, she held a number of support staff positions, including Administrative Secretary in the Office of Academic Dean throughout most of the 1990s, administrative support agent in Continuing Education and as an administration technician in the Academic Systems Continuing Education office during the last 10 years of her 星空传媒 career.
Judy was an enthusiastic member of the 星空传媒 community, attending as many events and social gatherings as time allowed. Kindhearted to a fault, she greeted everyone she met with a smile and a warm greeting in her trademark gravelly voice. She is fondly remembered by her former colleagues and friends at the College.

星空传媒 mourns the passing of one of the most distinctive voices and enthusiastic members of its community. Roslyn Silver passed away on November 24 after facing health challenges for a number of years. She was surrounded by her loved ones and closest friends until the end. Roslyn started her long career at 星空传媒 in 1979…
In memoriam: Louise Kralka

The College received the sad news that Louise Kralka, who served on the Board of Governors for eight years between 2009 and 2017, passed away on January 20. She was 68 years old. The celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 31. Details are contained in the obituary at 聽.
Louise was a dedicated member of the extended 星空传媒 community with close friends at the College, and her son Patrick McBride who worked for a time in Facilities Management. An active and engaged member of the Board, she was Chair between June 2014 and February 2017 after serving as Vice-Chair, and she contributed to many Board-related committees.
